Description |
Carved and painted wooden Hopi Kachina doll. Long (to knees) incised black hair with white tips. Bangs straight cut. Headdress is large feather flat on top of head and hanging down back. Half of feather is incised and brown, other half is smooth black. The two sides are divided by a narrow white line. At the bottom of the line is a heavy white "Tee" across width of feather. Below "Tee" is black. Bottom of feather reaches waist line. Face covering is pink at top with 2 eye holes, a red line running across with 4 short vertical lines. Below the red line is a narrow blck and white, alternateing squares line and the bottom of the face mask is black. Shoulders and body are covered with a cloak with a red top and another band of red close to the bottom, There are 2 white lines following the contours of the body in the red area. Between the red bands the cloak is tan (wood color). Below the red the cloak is black. The Kachina has a heavy turquoise necklace and a red and turquoise belt. There is a large spider hanging from the belt. Spider is 2 inches long tip to tip. Base is separate with verticle stripes of color. |
