|Title||Basket - Marshallese|
Marshallese basket with a lip parallel to the ground and closely edged with shells. The lip is made of a narrow strip of rigid material wrapped with a thin fabric (grass?) or paper. The strips are coiled around a web of string-weight fiber with the strips on edge to the bottom. As the sides of the basket go up, the strips stay in the same position, at right angles to the ground. The strips are connected by a type of coil work.
Very attractive and unusual
